THE GREAT WAR

The core rulebook for a table top miniatures game set in World War One, using armies of model soldiers, terrain and dice.

The Great War, World War One, or The War to End all Wars are all names used to describe one of the largest and brutal conflicts in human history.

When war broke out in August 1914 the majority of military commanders felt that the war would be over by Christmas. After 6 weeks of maneuver there was nowhere to outflank the enemy. Soldiers had to dig in to survive the murderous new reality of war: The heavy machine gun, gas attack, and week long artillery bombardment.

Despite huge offensives such as the Somme or Verdun in 1916 failing to break the stalemate, technical innovations such as the tank, airplane, stormtrooper and predicted barrage meant that as the war entered the final year both sides returned to the offensive with new weapons of war.

The Great War rules enable you to recreate the battalion level actions where brave men grimly fought over shattered woods, ruined villages or ridge lines to gain some small territorial advantage that characterized the wider offensives throughout the war.

This core rulebook contains the following:

  • A brief historical overview of the Great War.

  • Army lists for 1914 and 1918 Western Front British, French and German battalion level forces with 18 variants.

  • Sample army rosters so you can start collecting and playing quickly.

  • Scenarios for both balanced games and ways to recreate the challenges faced by the commanders of World War One.

  • Painting your army hints and tips.

  • Inspiring photographs of the armies in action.

The Great War core rulebook is the first in a series enabling gamers to recreate the conflicts of World War One on the table top and reflect on the heroism of the individual man under fire.
